Holographic Experimentation Device
This device was an experimental piece created for the exhibition Boccioni: Continuity in Space that took place in Contemporary of Art Museum (MAC USP) in São Paulo, Brazil. The piece was made in partnership with the FabLab SP, and used acrylic to create the holography.
The exhibition Boccioni: continuity in space illustrates the work of the Museum of Contemporary Art at the University of São Paulo. It is based on unprecedented multidisciplinary research developed by curators Ana Magalhães (MAC USP) and Rosalind McKever (Victoria & Albert Museum, London), who investigated historical, aesthetic and technical aspects of Umberto Boccioni's artistic production (1882-1916), in collaboration with national and international institutions: abroad, with the support of the City of Milan and the Museo Del Novecento; in the city of São Paulo, with the performance of FAB LAB Livre SP; at the University of São Paulo, with the partnerships that involved the Physics Institute and the Polytechnic School; within the scope of the museum, the investigations had the contribution of some of our teams, such as the Collection sector (Cataloging, Conservation and Restoration), the Research division, the Planning and Projects area (Publishing, Design and Assembly) , in addition to the necessary support from the Administration.
In this exhibition, the public will be able to experience an experience derived from academic research, however, presented through a visual path that allows the creation and dissemination of Unique Forms of Continuity in Space to be followed - seminal work of the MAC USP collection and of international importance. , this is because this sculpture marks the beginning of Italian futurism, still in the early twentieth century and influences the entire course of later modern art. In this way, the museum disseminates and shares the material study of a work from its collection, at the interface between research and curatorship.
Enriching the exhibition and following its developments is the international seminar The Boccioni Dilemma: in search of his sculptural work whose central discussion is the sculpture of MAC USP, object of the exhibition and of intense research.
We thank all employees and, in particular, the sponsorship of the Instituto de Cultura Italiana of São Paulo.
