Black Madonna is an interactive mural with augmented reality designed by Cedric Vise for the festival Beyond Walls 2017, in Lynn. As a afrofuturism-inspired mural, the idea was to create an animated experience with AR, to expand the elements of the painting. In collaboration with Cedric Vise, my main role was to setup the app for AR, create the animated elements and implementing the final augmented version on site.
As my first collaboration with Cedric and the Dudley Square Studios, we worked all together to create an AR layer for his mural commissioned by Beyond Walls, in a local residence program. I worked directly with Cedric, helping him with to merge analog and digital art, defining the input and output for the AR application, creating the animation and doing all the implementation. The project uses a freemium application for AR (Aurasma), and the creation process took 4 weeks of discussion, creation of the animations, definition of the layers and effects to be implemented. The most complicated part was the study of the trigger (the mural image) to be used in the AR application, making sure all the angles were interactive. |
